A "lame duck session" is when Congress (either chamber) reconvenes in an even-numbered year following the November gerneral elections to consider various items of business. Some lawmakers who return for this session will not be in the next Congress. Hence, they are informally called "lame duck" members participating in a "lame duck" session.

Meet Your Student Teacher
Hello! I am Ms. Bayliff and I will be your student teacher for American Government this fall. I will be observing the class for about a week and then I will begin teaching some lessons myself.
I thought that everyone may want to know a little more about me, so here goes.
1. I am a graduate student at KU and have my degrees in secondary history/government education as well as in theatre performance.

2. I am from Johnson County and went to Shawnee Mission West. (Please don't hate me firebirds!)

3. My family owns a watch repair and retail store in Overland Park called KC Watch and it has been in business for over 30 years. My grandparents started it, my mother now owns it, and my older brother and younger sister currently work there.
4. My favorite foods include: macaroni & cheese (bluebox, of course), mashed potatoes, mint chocolate chip ice cream, and I could eat spaghetti everyday.
5. Some of my hobbies include: singing, dancing, acting, organizing, and taking naps.
6. After student teaching, I plan on moving up to Des Moines, Iowa where my boyfriend currently works. He is a webcast studio producer and also does work for companies involving social media, logo and website design, and marketing strategies.
Those are the most important things about me. I am very excited to start my teaching career and the first step is with you at Freestate. I think we can learn a lot while actually enjoying the subject somewhat. If you ever need to contact me, my e-mail is jbayliff@usd497.org While you are browsing my site, be sure to check out some of the links posted along the side. Some are related to government, but others are just sites that I deem interesting. I can't wait to start and I look forward to meeting you all.
Ms. Bayliff
